On Monday Bobby and I attended a meeting of the Midwest Minister’s Fellowship, hoping to continue to bridge some connections with other pastors and churches around the Kansas City area. As we were there listening, one of the leaders of the session shared a simple thought based around the Holy Spirit.
The thought was that many Christians at some point in their life try to lead the Holy Spirit, instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to lead them. This tends to happen when we think that we know all of the answers, when we think that we are doing everything right, and when we think that we know exactly what God’s will is for our lives.
The reality is that in order to let the Holy Spirit guide and direct us, we must live a step behind the Holy Spirit. That takes us not trying to step ahead of Him, but allowing Him to lead. We need to realize that we can never know more than the Holy Spirit knows. That’s why we need to live a step behind Him. If we try and lead the Holy Spirit that will land us even further behind Him then we need to be.
So in your everyday life, when making major life decisions, and when you’re trusting in the Holy Spirit, let Him guide and direct you.
