On Sunday, I had the privilege of speaking at EPIC Church.  It was a great joy for me; I love being used by God in such a big way.  My message was on “The Greatest Commandment.” You can listen to it here.  The message was based on Mark 12:28-34:

28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘There is no commandment greater than these.” 32“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

In this passage of scripture I believe that Jesus charges us to do three things:

1.  Love God-

a.  With all of your heart – It takes more than convenience; it’s about commitment.

b.  With all of your soul – You can’t just live on a taste of God; you need to be filled with Him.

c.  With all of your mind – Although it may be difficult at times, you must let God into this aspect of your life.

d.  With all of your strength – You must love God with your time and energy.

2.  Love Others

a.  You can’t love others if you don’t love God…You can’t love God if you don’t love others.

b.  You must love everyone…those easy to love and those hard to love.

3.  Love Yourself-

a.  You may say,  “I’m inadequate” or “I’ve been hurt,” but the reality is that God still loves you!

b.  Jesus charges us to love God and that’s because He loves us.  That’s reason enough to love who you are.

Jesus charges you to Love God, Love Others and to Love Yourself!  It’s up to you and me to follow The Greatest Commandment!
